At 25, Samantha Montzinger is the catering manager and executive chef for Fedics, where she runs the coffee shop, caters for functions and prepares director’s lunches. It is a gruelling schedule, primary because customer satisfaction is important to her, but Samantha has always been a high achiever.
In her final year at WITS Technikon Hotel School, she was chosen as a reserve for the South African junior team that competed for the Hans Beuschkens Memorial Trophy at the World Association of Chefs’ Societies Congress in 2004. The following year she worked alongside chef Arnold Tanzer at the Bocuse d’Or World Cuisine contest in France. And in October, she’ll compere in the IKA Culinary Olympics in Germany as one of 13 chefs in the SA team. While the preparations for the competition are hectic, Samantha still puts in a full days’ work. She made time to share her recipe for success.
